PT Pocket Office for the pocket PC and Smartphone................................

I can't install PTeSVNC.

If SetUpPTeSVNC will not work on your system then you need to use an alternative VNC server. We recommend using UltraVNC as the alternative. Note that if you want file transfer available over the VNC connection then you need to use either PTeSVNC or UltraVNC.

No connection is made after entering the password (seems to hang, times out or VNC server not found).

First of all try "enable loopback" in your VNC server options (this may be in advanced options). Secondly if your system is not on a local LAN or WLAN then you may need to install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter (WinXP or W2000) If trying to connect remotely over the internet (e.g. via GPRS or CDMA) then you must ensure that the port selected for VNC use (default 5900) is actually available via your phone carrier and your server's ISP and if your server is accessed via a router then the router must be set to forward data on the VNC port to the local IP address of the PC running the VNC server, also any firewalls or other security software must be allowing access via the VNC port.

An error occurs when initially connecting.

If trying to connect to a more recent version of RealVNC (4+) then you will need to set the server "Legacy" option to use rfb 3.3.

I can't connect remotely.

First check that your host machine is in fact open to VNC connection via the internet. You can do this by setting your VNC server to use one of the default VNC ports (5900-5909) and then browsing on your PC to www.gotomyvnc.com and clicking the button to test your connection. If no ports are reported as open then you need to check that there are no firewalls or other security software preventing access over the port and that your router (if using one) is routing the VNC port to the local IP address of the PC running the VNC server.
If you're absolutely sure you have the relevant software and hardware configured correctly but www.gotomyvnc.com still reports no connections available then it's possible (but very unlikely) that your PC's ISP is blocking the VNC port/s - in this case the only solution is to either get them to unblock one of the ports for your account or use an alternative port that isn't being blocked such as port 80 (unfortunately this means you couldn't use the quick check on www.gotomyvnc.com). Also if using ports other than 5900-5909 we recommend using UltraVNC instead of PTeSVNC.
If www.gotomyvnc.com reports that the port you are trying to use is open but PT Pocket Office is not finding the host then it is quite possible that your phone provider is blocking the port that you're trying to use - again the solution is either to get them to unblock the port on your account or use an alternatiove port that isn't being blocked such as port 80.
Also when connecting remotely you must remember that if your host does not have a static IP address then after disconnection/reconnection of your host to the internet then it's IP address is quite likely to change.

I can't connect over Bluetooth or USB.

In order to connect over Bluetooth your WM5 device must be paired with the PC running the VNC server and Activesync must be running over the Bluetooth connection. In order to connect over USB then Activesync must be running over the USB connection. Acxtivesync is not required for either WiFi or remote connection (e.g. GPRS/CDMA).

Barbillards FAQ for Pocket PC and Smartphone...................................

Why can’t I connect when the device is connected to my PC through Activesync?

Depending on the connection method Activesync can cause connection issues. If the Wi-Fi connection option is selected, then to date this method is usually not compatible whilst the device is connected through Activesync. When using TCP/IP, then ensure that the Activesync device is not Player 1.

Can`t connect through Bluetooth?

Only through Bluetooth ActiveSync, when NOT Player 1, and when using TCP/IP connection method.

I can’t connect over the Internet

If you have a router, check which ports are blocked, and choose a port which is not blocked to connect through. Also ensure that the router traffic on that specific port is routed to the local IP of your device. Also check with your internet provider as to which (if any) ports are blocked by them.

I have a Pocket PC version of the game and would like to play it on my Windows Smartphone.

The Pocket PC and Windows Smartphone versions are two separate versions; however they are both available from Handango, and Pocketgear. It is quite possible however to play an opponent on the Smartphone version from the Pocket PC version.

I want to play over the internet, but don’t know my IP address

Visit the website www.whatismyip.com and there you go.

I want to find the local IP of my Pocket PC

Go to the properties of your PPC’s network card (usually located in ‘Settings’, ‘Connections’) and ensure an IP is specified, as opposed to dynamically allocated. If you have access to a PC on the network, you can check that the specified IP is being used by going to Command Prompt, and typing: ping 192.168.x.x

If a reply is received, then the PPC is connected to the network.

I keep getting “Insufficient memory” message

Pocket Bar Billiards requires that the device has 10 megabytes of free program memory to run. To find out how much memory is available on your device simply go to Start Menu-Settings. On the ‘System’ tab click on ‘Memory’. You can move the slider to ensure that 10 megabytes of program memory is allocated by the system. As Windows CE uses the same memory to run and store applications, then we advise that where possible a Storage Card is used to store any installed applications (including this one).

PTvnc GPRS FAQ.....................................................

1. It finds the server machine but gets no further.

Check your VNC server options and enable "allow loopback", if it still fails then install the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" on the VNC server machine.

2. I get "authentication refused" (when not using PTeSVNC).

Check your VNC server to see if it has an option to allow connection using a legacy (older) authentication scheme.

3. I get past authentication but connection then gets an error (when not using PTeSVNC).

Try the following:
a. Check what encodings your VNC server supports. If it supports "Tight" then there shouldn't be a problem, otherwise you may need to change the encoding requested by PTvncX to one that your VNC server supports (after "Tight" the next best options are "Zlib Hextile","Zlib","Hextile" then "RRE"), to do this in PTvncGPRS or PTvncHiRes tap "F1" while on the hostname entry screen, in PTvncS press "Home" while on the hostname entry screen, then change the encoding as required.
b. On the password entry screen in PTvncX change the option to "No Scaling" using the joypad/gamepad/joystick.

Tower of SoulsFAQ..............................................

PTvnc WM5.X FAQ..........................................................

1. The host (name or IP) I am entering is not being found.

If connecting locally via Bluetooth or WiFi then the chances are you've just misentered the hostname or IP but it is just possible that there may be some firewall or other security software preventing local access to your host machine - note that to connect over Bluetooth requires a paired connection with Activesync running over Bluetooth though connected as "guest" is fine - Activesync is not required for WiFi connection.
If connecting remotely and you get this problem the first thing to do is double-check that your host machine is in fact open to VNC connection via the internet. You can check this by setting your WinVNC server to use one of the default VNC ports (5900-5909) and then browsing on your PC to www.gotomyvnc.com and clicking the button to test your connection. If no ports are reported as open then you need to check that there are no firewalls or other security software preventing access over the UDP port and that your router (if using one) is routing the VNC UDP port to the local IP address of the PC running the VNC server.
If you're absolutely sure you have the relevant software and hardware configured correctly but www.gotomyvnc.com still reports no connections available then it's possible (but very unlikely) that your PC's ISP is blocking the VNC port/s - in this case the only solution is to either get them to unblock one of the ports for your account or use an alternative UDP port that isn't being blocked such as port 80 (unfortunately this means you couldn't use the quick check on www.gotomyvnc.com). b. On the password entry screen in PTvncX change the option to "No Scaling" using the joypad/gamepad/joystick.

5. In PTvncWM5 on many devices you may find PTvncWM5 is upside-down with respect to your hardware QWERTY keyboard

You can fix this prior to connecting to a server by tapping "F1" on the hostname entry screen and then tapping "Rotate screen" until the orientation is correct - note that you can actually set the orientation of PTvncWM5 to any 90 degree angle independantly of your Windows orientation (you can also change orientation from the PTvncWM5 options when connected). When you exit PTvncWM5 it will remember the orientation in which you left it next time you run the program.
