Hardware Compatibility for Pocket pc & Smartphone devices

V1.7 enhancements

PT Pocket Office 1.7 new features.

1). The functionality of the "Options" button has been much enhanced.
First of all there were buttons on some Smartphone devices which did not allow press and hold making it impossible to bring up the in-program help in PT Pocket Office.

Secondly it was decided that a quick-click method for switching display between magnified and reduced modes was required in order to make it possible to

quickly go from viewing your entire PC (server) display to viewing in a way that allows reading/entering text so that it is legible.
Because of this there are now multiple ways of using the "Options" button.

When menus of any sort are visible in PT Pocket Office a single quick press of the "Options" button will behave as previously in version 1.6 but you can

bring up the context-sensitive in-program help by either clicking and holding the "Options" button for 3 seconds or (on devices where that doesn't work)

triple-clicking the "Options" button.

When connected and just viewing your server's display with no PT Pocket Office menus up then the "Options" button has three functions:

a. A single quick press and release of the "Options" button" will toggle the display between magnified and reduced display mode.
b. Pressing and holding the "Options" button for 1 to 2 seconds or (for devices where that won't work) double-clicking the "Options" button will bring up the Options Menu.

c. Pressing and holding the "Options" button for 3 seconds or (for devices where that won't work) triple-clicking the "Options" button will bring up the
in-program help.

2). For users wishing to connect using VPN over either GPRS/CDMA or via Bluetooth/WiFi to an external modem you can now do so as follows:

a. Before running PT Pocket Office make your VPN connection.
b. Run PT Pocket Office and on the hostname entry screen select "Remote GPRS/CDMA" even if using an external modem via Bluetooth/WiFi.

3). In order to allow better control of PC (or MAC or Linux) software (like SL) that requires click-and-hold functionality on the keyboard there is now

an extra setting for the keyboard modes.
When on the PT Pocket Office Options Menu and highlighting the keyboard mode pressing the joypad centre will toggle "hold character" mode on and off.

When this is enabled the keyboard mode text is bracketed by two *s to indicate that “hold character” is enabled. In “hold character” mode most keys

pressed and sent to the VNC server are sent as keypresses without a key release code so that on the server the character is effectively “held-down” and in order to release the character you must press the same key again. This mode allows you to control programs such as Second Life that require “press-and-hold” for much of their functionality. For example in Second life when you’ve enabled “hold character” mode in PT Pocket Office with Second Life running on the server PC then pressing “w” will start your avatar walking forward and he’ll continue to walk forward until you press “w” again. If you’
ve pressed one key but then press a different key then the first key you pressed is automatically released and the new key held i.e. you can’t hold two keys down at once.

4). There are now more custom keyboard modes: the JasJar and compatibles, the HTC S710/Orange e650 and compatibles and the HTC Mogul and compatibles.
